Eventful の Pre-interview Days

It will be a long post because I have got a lot of things to say. Eventful is the word. In many aspects, this week is a life-altering one. I have made one of my first major decision, other than picking what degree I am taking and what lap-tops I will be getting. Seriously, I shuddered at the thought of the making the decision.

The decision isssssssssssss..........my first career!

Did I ever think that I will become an auditor? Frankly, nope. Ask me what an Auditor is a few years back, I'll just give you a blank stare.

I have accepted Ernst and Young's offer. Yippee! But the journey was a long and tough one.

It all started two months back. The hype and hussles of the Recruitment were played up, starting with the Big 4 Networking Nite. It was the first of such networking that I have went to in NTU. It was professionally done, with the Partners, Managers and HR people trying to brainwash and psycho us to join their firm. There are 4 firms and competition for talents is sure to be tight. On another note, it is interesting for me to take note of such competition. Reason being, it will be hard to find such a thing in the other industry, like the manufacturing or banking industry. Maybe there is, but certainly not to such a degree.

During that night, impressions were formed, opinions being made and choices evaluated. On my part, I was thankful if any of the firm will accept me. I did not go, like some of my friends, "Don't know choose which firm." But I was really comprehensive, I was not sure if any would accept me. Although, there were people saying that the Big 4 sure will take almost 90% of NTU people. I was worried I was the 10%.

The Office of Profession Attachment (OPA) sent out an email informing us that the Big 4 Joint-Recruitment web-site is ready. I accessed it and started preparing my resumes and application forms. The dateline was 31/10/2006 and I sent my stuff to OPA on the friday.

Seriously, I felt that I was being spoon-fed. It was a great collabration between the school and the CPA firms, making the mundane task of job application a breeze. Nonetheless, it did not feel like the real thing.

Well a new chapter of my life has commenced. But the interviews were nightmares too............next blog..........
